Creating Your Dream Bridal Gown

Research

Your first step is research.  What style suits you?  What fabrics do you like?  What designs do you like best?

This research can be done in two ways – Bridal and Fashion Magazines and trying on as many gowns as possible.

Consultations

Once you have some solid ideas, it is the perfect time to book your consultation with Amanda.  Consultations generally last 1 hour depending on how well you know what you want in your gown.  Your consultation will take place in Amanda’s private home-based studio.  In this relaxed environment, you can sit with Amanda and discuss your research.  Together you will see your gown start to take shape.  A basic sketch matched with fabric sample will create the foundations of your dream gown

Booking Your Gown

At Amanda Shay Couture, bookings are limited; Amanda only books 2 Bridal Gowns per month.  To secure your gown you will need to pay a deposit on your gown.  All further payments are then divided in to equal payments to be made at each of your fittings.

Toile

Your very first fitting is a calico shell of the top section of your gown.  This is fitted to your body shape creating a pattern in which you gown will be started from.

2nd Toile

Your second fitting is where the gown shape starts to take place.  The entire silhouette of the gown is constructed in calico.  Since you are not going into a shop and buying your gown off a rack, this is the best way for you to see how your gown is going to look.  At this stage you can see where your neckline will sit, the width and flow of the skirt, length of the train.  If there are things that you want to change, these changes can still be made before the gown is produced in your chosen fabrics.

1st Fitting

This fitting is called your 1st fitting, as it is the first fitting where your gown is made up in your chosen fabric.  You will really see your gown coming.  Depending on the style of your gown will depend on what is done.  In most cases, the front section of the gown is complete, with the back and hem sections still to be finished.

2nd Fitting

Your 2nd fitting should see most of your gown finished.  The next step is the hemming of the gown and any additional beading.

Picking Up Your Gown

This is the final fitting of your gown and usually takes place 2 weeks before the wedding.  Everything on your gown will be complete and ready for you to take home.  If you are unable to store your gown at home you can leave it with Amanda until a date closer to your wedding.
